I know that visiting teaching gets bagged on a lot--especially in the blogpshere.  But, as a RS Pres, I've gotta say that I love it when it works the way that it should.

I am so grateful that, after I encouraged a certain companionship to visit a specific sister (because I felt she had some immediate needs) this week, they did it.  And they called me with a report and some very timely information.  And, not only did they explain some challenges/problems that the sister was having, but they gave me the run-down on what they were already doing to help her work through those problems.

That, my dear readers, is what visiting teaching is about.  It's Christ-like love and service in action.

If you haven't read this I highly recommend it. Craig bought the BBC movie for me last year, which has inspired me to read the book (and who doesn't like a good 19th century English novel with a female protagonist?). If the language tends to scare you off, try this one...it's very readable.

A word of advice

Don't use flushable wipes.  No matter how much easier it makes potty training.  Just.  Don't.

By doing so you may be able to avoid:

pipes spilling over into your basement

calling a plumber at 9:00 pm

hours of not being able to use the potty

a damaged back water valve

finding out that the previous owners of your house covered access to the backwater valve when they finished the basement

pulling up carpet to reach backwater valve

cutting a hole in the middle of the carpet for easy back water valve access

Really.  Just take my word for it.

A letter to Compulsive Writer

Dear CW-

Last Mother's Day you encouraged me to get that treadmill.  You said that you wished you hadn't put off taking care of your health for financial reasons.  I've been planning and saving, and sent my hubby to pick it up this week.  When he got there he called to say they had an elliptical for less money.  I said, "Do it!"

Last night was my first workout.  I did 40 minutes.  I feel so good about it.  I'm also training (along with several women from my ward) for a 10K race.  I'll probably end up walking most of it, but I'm doing it.  Following a plan.  Making the effort.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I didn't forget about it.

Have a marvelous time in Seattle.  I'm entirely jealous.

In celebration

I have changed to my Spring blog format in celebration of the following:

1. The snow has melted in all but the very shadiest corners of the yard.

2. The above mentioned melting allowed me to see the crocus poking up in my front yard.

3. Dogger did a poo-poo in the potty this morning with out any urging or help.

I feel so refreshed, so ready for new life!  

Spring Break well spent

I can't wait to catch one of these games next Fall.
